precipitation
precipitation (quantity, intensity, type)
tipping bucket
Precipitation is registered here in a pot with a surface of typically 200 cm² in a corrosion-free construction (stainless steel or plastic). Optionally a heating unit can be integrated which avoids freezing of the tipping bucket and melts snow (for extremely cold environments).
radar-based measurements
The veolocity of the drops is registered by means of a 24 GHz Doppler radar. On the basis of the correlation of the drop size and velocity quantity and intensity oft he precipitation is determined. The detection of the precipitation type (rain, snow, hail) is determined by the different velocities of fall of the drops. Resolution up to 0.01 mm. Maintenance-free.
